Introductory Interdisciplinary Collaborative Law Training class

Join us for an engaging and informative virtual training provided in conjunction with the unique Collaborative Family Law Clinic at Barry University Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law. This Collaborative law related training will teach you what the Collaborative Law process has to offer clients and the professionals who assist them. This practice-oriented approach to training will provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to provide Collaborative services within your local practice group. This training includes a special section on increasing access to Collaborative process for diverse clients. This course is intended for lawyers, mental health professionals, financial professionals, mediators, paralegals, real estate/ mortgage professionals, and students who would like to work with clients in the Collaborative process. Continuing education credit is available. There will be 16 training hours, inclusive of breaks.
Virtual Training: We have received approval from our CLE and CEU providers for this to be a live virtual training. Although IACP does not approve Collaborative training or Collaborative trainers, we strive to meet IACP standards.

All participants must complete the entire 16 hours of training over the four days (inclusive of breaks) to receive a certificate of attendance. Continuing education hours are determined by each entity, so those hours may be more or less than the training hours calculated here. In addition, there are reading assignments and activities to complete throughout the training.
If the August dates do not work for your schedule, the next expected training is in January 2024. There may be additional dates added so please check back or let us know you want to be notified of dates that are added.

Registration fees are refundable up to 21 days before the training minus any credit card processing fees. Within 21 days of the training another participant can be substituted up to 3 days before the training.
Additional, information regarding the training will be emailed to paid participants right after registration and again right before the class. Access to the training materials via our Learning Management System, LearnDash, will be provided approximately one week before the first training dates. Please let us know if you do not receive the email confirmation so we can sort that out well before the first training dates. Please make sure to check your junk folder before contacting us.
*Barry Collaborative Clinic Cases began in the Fall Semester of 2014 and continue each semester thereafter. Each case will be completed in two or three Full Interdisciplinary Team Meeting sessions conducted on two or three Friday mornings at Barry School of Law. Additional hours will be required for telephone contact with clients and professional team members. Law school students will be assigned to each case.
Continuing education credit must be regularly renewed so the specific hours approved and the specialty hours approved may differ from class to class. Our training is approved by the below entities only. We do not apply for continuing education for attendees to obtain credit for their preferred entity but you may self-report. An extensive outline is provided to assist you with that process.
The program has been approved by The Florida Bar for CLE for lawyers (16 total hours which includes 1 ethics hour and .5 technology hour). Lawyers from out of state will need to determine if CLE can be applied. Program is approved for 14.0 CLE credit including 1.25 Ethics CLE credit by NALA for paralegals. We cannot guarantee approval for lawyers in other states or countries. We do not complete CLE applications for other geographic areas.
Continuing education for psychologists has been approved through the Florida Psychological Association (FPA) for 15 hours. Approval is for 12 hours of general continuing education credits, 2 hours of professional ethics and Florida laws and rules, and 1 hour of domestic violence. There is an additional $25.00 fee for CE for non-FPA members. The Florida Psychological Association is approved by Florida Department of Health, Board of Psychology and Board of School Psychology to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Florida Psychological Association is approved by the Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Mental Health Counseling as a provider of continuing education. FPA maintains responsibility for this program and its contents. Course content is designed to qualify for 15 hours continuing professional education (behavior category) for certified public accountants. However, CPAs must individually determine the exact CPE details to be self-reported and must retain required documentation in case of audit by the Florida Board of Accountancy. This course is consistent with the following requirements in Florida Statute 61H1-33.003: qualified instructors for all general content, qualified financial instructors involved in the training, participants must attend all 14 hours to receive a certificate of attendance, participants must sign in to receive a certificate of attendance (a record of attendance is kept by the trainers), a detailed course outline with learning objectives and supporting course material is provided to the participant in advance of the training. Further, course content is designed to contribute directly and indirectly to professional competency for accountants including topics such as special knowledge in Collaborative interdisciplinary practice, the CPA’s role in this process, core competencies required for work on a Collaborative team, practice management, billing for services, discussion of useful computer programs, ethical responsibilities to clients and team members, professional conduct, comparison of accountant and Collaborative specific professional standards, and oral/ written communications with clients and team members.
Other financial professionals must determine applicable continuing education credit.
